Brian A. Roper is a transportation engineering manager with over 3 decades of experience in the public and private sectors, including nearly 20 years at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Over the course of his career, he has performed or managed a wide variety of traffic, planning, environmental, design, construction, and consulting activities. Since November 2020, he has led the Systems Operations Section in the Southeast Region, which encompasses the Milwaukee-Racine-Kenosha metropolitan area and surrounding counties. With 52 dedicated professionals, WisDOT’s largest section of engineers and specialists apply their talents across a diverse range of practice. These include signal operations & maintenance, lighting, safety, signing & marking, traffic operations & modeling, work zones, and roadway maintenance. In other roles, Brian has led multi-billion-dollar freeway expansion programs, large bridge reconstructions & repairs, and the statewide consultant services section. He earned his BS in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University and his MS in Civil Engineering with a transportation focus from Purdue University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Brian is a member of both the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
