Brian A. Roper is a transportation engineering manager with over 3 decades of experience in the public and private sectors, including the past 19 years at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Over the course of his career, he has performed or managed a wide variety of traffic, planning, environmental, design, construction, and consulting activities. Since November 2020, he has led the Systems Operations Section in the Southeast Region, which encompasses the Milwaukee-Racine-Kenosha metropolitan area and surrounding counties. With 52 dedicated professionals, WisDOT’s largest section of engineers and specialists apply their talents across a diverse range of practice. These include signal operations & maintenance, lighting, safety, signing & marking, traffic operations & modeling, work zones, and roadway maintenance. In other roles, Brian has led multi-billion-dollar freeway expansion programs, large bridge reconstruction and repair projects, and the statewide consultant services section. He earned his BS in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University and his MS in Civil Engineering with a transportation focus from Purdue University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Brian is a member of both the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
