Robert “Bob” Tanner is the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Director for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), bringing over 30 years of expertise in transportation law and policy at the federal, state, and local levels. In his role, Bob will spearhead implementation of the state’s AAM strategy, guide policy, oversee infrastructure investment, and continue support of advanced aircraft operations. Previously, Bob was the Director of Aerospace Partnerships at Parallax Advanced Research, where he led innovation engagement strategies within the aerospace and aviation sectors, focusing on the evolution of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), helping state and local governments align with federal regulations and support the planning, integration, and demonstration of AAM technologies. Prior to that, Bob was the Executive Director of the Ohio Federal Research Network (OFRN) at Parallax, where he managed daily operations and led strategic initiatives to foster entrepreneurship and collaboration across Ohio. Under his leadership, OFRN facilitated commercialization pathways for applied research in both defense and commercial sectors. Before joining Parallax, Bob served as Vice President of Corporate & Government Affairs and Associate General Counsel for NetJets, Inc., a leader in private/business aviation. There, he engaged with Congress and the aviation industry on policy and regulatory issues, including the implementation of NextGen technologies. Bob's career also includes his role as General Counsel and Vice President of Government Affairs for John Glenn International Airport. He played a pivotal role in developing one of the nation’s first successful public/private partnerships, leading to the establishment of the Rickenbacker Intermodal Facility, which remains a key economic driver for Ohio. Bob began his legal career in research and technology at Battelle Memorial Institute. He holds degrees from The Ohio State University and Capital University Law School and is a licensed attorney in Ohio.
