Suspended in Time: Historic Roebling Bridge Tour

This is your chance to tour a National Historic Landmark. Spanning the Ohio River between Cincinnati and Covington, the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge does far more than cross between two cities — it is one of the most remarkable historic bridges in America. Designed by visionary engineer John A. Roebling and completed in 1867,

the bridge showcased groundbreaking suspension technology that would later inspire his most famous achievement, the Brooklyn Bridge.

When it opened, the bridge boasted the longest main span of any suspension bridge in the world at 1,057 feet — a stunning engineering accomplishment for its time. Its towering stone structures, sweeping cables, and striking silhouette transformed the American skyline and demonstrated the bold ambition of a rapidly growing nation. More importantly, the bridge became a lifeline across the Ohio River, strengthening commerce, travel, and everyday connections between Ohio and Kentucky in the years following the Civil War. For generations, pedestrians, wagons, streetcars, and automobiles have crossed its deck, making the bridge a constant presence in the lives of the communities it serves.

Participants will experience this history firsthand through a 90-minute guided walking tour of the bridge. Led by a John A. Roebling impersonator, the tour will bring the story of the bridge to life with engaging historical insights, stories about its construction, and fascinating details about the people and engineering that made the structure possible.
